Amy Schwab Owens

Amy Owens joined the CareFirst, Inc. (CFI) and CareFirst of Maryland, Inc. (CFMI) Boards on September 4, 2013 and was elected Chair of CFMI in December 2019.

Ms. Owens is the founder of Life Fitness Management, a health fitness firm located in Western Maryland. Founded in 2005, Life Fitness embraces the philosophy of total wellness – physical conditioning, proper diet and mental wellness. Ms. Owens is a licensed psychotherapist maintaining a private consulting practice in Allegany County. She is also a trained wellness coach and personal trainer.
 
Prior to her health career, Ms. Owens was Vice President of Design and Merchandising for The S. Schwab Company, where she oversaw the creative development of the firm’s Little Me and Mufflings children’s wear. The firm’s products were sold in the top department and specialty stores throughout North America. Ms. Owens received five national Earnie Awards for children’s clothing design.
 
Ms. Owens received the Maryland Top 100 Women Award in 2010 and the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2011.

Ms. Owens helped found the Community Wellness Coalition in Cumberland, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting local wellness initiatives and currently serves as Vice President. She previously served as a member of the Maryland State Judicial Nominating Commission, the Frostburg State University Foundation Board, Memorial Hospital (today Western Maryland Health System) Board, Family Crisis Resource Center Board and the Cumberland Cultural Foundation Board.
 
She received her B.S. in criminology from the University of Maryland, and her Masters in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University.

Ms. Owens is an avid bicyclist, having cycled the Continental Divide, from Canada to Mexico, and much of the Lewis & Clark Trail. She and her husband, Stephen, a retired college professor, also enjoy art, music, hiking, caving and travel. Stephen and Amy have three adult children.
