CareFirst Kicks Off 2014 with Industry, Media Awards

Company recognized for brand excellence, innovative partnerships, ethical business practices

April 10, 2014 - Baltimore — During the first quarter of 2014, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) and two of the company’s leaders were recognized by industry organizations, community groups and media outlets for outstanding performance, community service and corporate responsibility.

The company-wide accolades include:

  • The BlueCross BlueShield Association’s Brand Excellence Award for Member Retention, highlighting CareFirst’s achievement in retaining members and its commitment to superior service. With about 3.4 million members, CareFirst is the region’s largest health insurer. This is the 12th Brand Excellence Award CareFirst has received.
  • Leadership Greater Washington’s 2014 Innovative Community Partnership Award, in conjunction with Community of Hope, recognizes both organizations’ efforts to expand access to quality health care in Washington, D.C.

Accolades earned by company leaders include:

  • CareFirst CEO Chet Burrell was named to The Daily Record’s “Most Influential Marylanders” list for his contributions to the industry and overall support for community involvement. CEO Burrell was also inducted into The Daily Record’s “Circle of Influence,” having been named to this prestigious list three times.
  • CareFirst Vice President of Corporate Compliance Todd Cioni was named to New York Stock Exchange Governance Services, Corporate Board Member’s advisory panel for the “Distinguished Chief Compliance Officer” for his work in support of the company and its board of directors. Under Cioni’s guidance, CareFirst also was named to the Ethisphere Institute’s 2014 list of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies” for the organization’s ethical business practices and corporate governance programs.
