CareFirst Announces Grant to Expand Access to Summer Camps, Enrichment Programs
Funds to benefit children in underserved neighborhoods throughout Baltimore City
Baltimore, MD (May 12, 2016) - Baltimore’s largest corporate philanthropist continues to support efforts to help the city’s youth following the unrest that occurred one year ago. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) will award up to $100,000 to summer camp programs serving Baltimore City youth this year.
CareFirst has issued a request for proposals (RFP) from qualified 501(c)3 organizations offering summer camp/enrichment program services to support youth in our most challenged Baltimore City neighborhoods. Proposals must be submitted online via the 2016 Baltimore Summer Camp/Enrichment Application, and must be completed no later than Wednesday, June 1, at 11:59 p.m.
Grant applicants may request up to $10,000 to cover costs associated with camp tuition, staffing or programming. More information about the grant, including RFP guidelines, is available here.
“At the core of our mission as a not-for-profit health insurer is investing in grassroots, community-based programs that promote the health and well-being of all individuals and families in the regions we serve,” said Maria Harris Tildon, CareFirst Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Community Affairs. “These funds represent a direct investment in some of the most vulnerable populations we serve and may provide an opportunity otherwise unavailable to hundreds of Baltimore City youth.”
CareFirst has been named the Baltimore area’s largest corporate giver by the Baltimore Business Journal four of the past five years. Among the company’s funding initiatives was $115,000 to Restore Baltimore efforts following the unrest, including $50,000 to the Baltimore Community Foundation's Fund for Rebuilding Baltimore and $50,000 to the United Way of Central Maryland's Maryland Unites fund.
