The plan offers wide-ranging dental coverage and gives you freedom to choose any dentist you want to use. However, your out-of- pocket costs will be higher if you select a provider that is not participating in the network. Referrals are not required, meaning you can seek care whenever, and from whomever, you choose.

Select a Deductible Option and Designate a Payment Option

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) offers BlueDental Preferred, a comprehensive dental plan to residents of Maryland, Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia1. You must agree to remain in the plan for at least one year. The plan will automatically renew from year to year unless terminated.

There are two BlueDental Preferred options to choose from: High Option and Low Option. The High Option offers lower deductibles with Preventive & Diagnostic Services covered in full without having to meet a deductible. The Low Option offers lower premiums with higher deductibles.

Coverage for Dependent Children

Dependent children, up to age 26, can be added to a dental plan.

Payment Options

Pay for your plan annually or quarterly. Make your election on the enrollment application. Once your application has been received, we will send you a bill for your first premium payment. We must receive your first premium payment before your coverage can begin. After CareFirst receives your payment, you will be mailed your membership ID card and Individual Enrollment Agreement.

After you are enrolled in the plan, you can sign up for recurring payments through eBilling via My Account. One time payments can also be made through eBilling. Credit, debit and ACH payments are accepted.

We will mail you your membership ID card and a detailed information packet. Your coverage will be effective the first of the month following receipt of application, if received by the 20th of the month.
