Social Impact

CareFirst has been committed to being a force for good since 1934. We are committed to delivering equitable, affordable, accessible care through:

  • Social impact efforts
  • Community and corporate giving
  • Associate volunteerism
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Ethics and code of conduct

To achieve health equity, our investments are not only made through our charitable giving, but also through the time and talent of our associates.

Time

CareFirst Difference Makers volunteer their time to support nonprofit partners in the communities they live and work.

Talent

CareFirst Difference Makers use their professional skills, expertise and talents to help nonprofits solve their most pressing business challenges.

Treasure

As an anchor institution, CareFirst makes significant community investments. We ensure our business processes are aligned to invest in health equity.

Associates

We provide opportunities for our associates to connect with community partners across the region. Like CareFirst, these partners are committed to addressing the root causes of health disparities in our communities. Our “One Company, One Team” culture invites all associates to do well and do good in the communities where we live, learn, work, play and seek care. Each year, Difference Makers participate in our Week of Equity and Action, a series of virtual workshops and community volunteer opportunities. Taking part reinforces our commitment to empathy, inclusion, equity and belonging.

Community

CareFirst’s charitable giving initiatives are grants, sponsorships, memberships and associate matching contributions. Our investments advance the Community Health & Social Impact team’s focus areas, including:

  • Economic inclusion
  • Educational opportunities
  • Behavioral health
  • Chronic condition
  • Social impact
  • Accessible, affordable, high-quality care

Healthcare

CareFirst operates at the intersection of healthcare and SDOH. How? By collaborating and investing in partnerships that address health disparities in the Mid-Atlantic. Our not-for-profit mission is to provide affordable, accessible and quality healthcare to all. We’re committed to ensuring healthcare access and affordability for all. And we’re proud to serve as a leading corporate citizen in our region.

Environment

CareFirst is committed to conducting business in an environmentally sustainable manner.
