CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Appoints Anthony Jones as Vice President of External Affairs

Jones brings an accomplished public affairs career to the role of collaborating with policymakers to advance positive health outcomes for communities

Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. – Today, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst), the largest not-for-profit health plan in the mid-Atlantic region, announced Anthony Jones as Vice President of External Affairs, joining the Public Policy and Government Affairs Division of the company.  

In this role, Jones will identify, foster and expand strategic partnerships with community partners, local policymakers, nonprofit leaders, trade associations and other state, local and federal stakeholders. Using his accomplished experience in public affairs, policy and business strategy, Jones will lead the public policy and government affairs division’s external affairs team that covers Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia.

With two decades of experience providing strategic guidance and project management to businesses, labor unions, advocacy organizations and electoral campaigns, Jones has experience at all levels of government, public service leadership, electoral organizing and business administration.

In his extensive public affairs career, he served as Director of Neighborhood and Constituent Services for a former Baltimore City Council President, Director of Community Relations for Healthcare for the Homeless, and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Baltimore City Department of Social Services.

Jones is a proud graduate of Morgan State University, a historically black college and university, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He actively engages in leadership roles and volunteer opportunities throughout the greater Baltimore region.
