Getting Coverage

Consumers have the ability to purchase an individual or family plan directly from a health insurance company, like CareFirst, or a Health Insurance Marketplace or Exchange.

In Washington D.C., everyone who buys their own health insurance must buy it through the D.C. Health Link. If you choose to purchase directly through CareFirst, we have dedicated resources to answer your questions and help you make the best decision about your new health insurance plan. You have two opportunities to get coverage:

1. During open enrollment
2. When you experience a qualifying life event
