As the region’s largest not-for-profit insurer, we are proud to receive continued recognition for our innovative health care products, dedicated member service, and community leadership.
2019 marked the seventh consecutive year CareFirst was named by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies.” CareFirst was recognized for its corporate culture, business integrity and industry leadership in accountability, transparency and corporate social responsibility.
CareFirst is one of just four companies representing the health insurance industry on the list of 128 organizations spanning 21 countries and 50 industries.
CareFirst has been nationally recognized as a "Best in Blue" insurer for providing stellar customer service for 20 years for D.C. Federal Employee Program members and 10 years for Maryland Federal Employee Program members.
The Federal Employee Program Excellence Awards are presented annually by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) to honor member plans that provide excellent service to federal employees.
The awards focus on the service profile, strategic profile, claims and customer service performance, keeping benefit and administrative costs low, and growing membership.
With more than 5,000 employees located through our service region, CareFirst has long been committed to promoting a culture of tolerance, acceptance and diversity in the workplace.
In 2017, the company has earned the following recognitions:
- A top score of 100 percent from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) on the organization’s 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and recognition as of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality” by HRC;
- WorldatWork’s 2017 Seal of Distinction for creating a positive work environment; and,
- The Chesapeake Human Resources Association’s 2017 James W. Rouse Diversity Award for our demonstrated commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Every year since 2012, CareFirst has been recognized as one of the region’s leading corporate philanthropists by publications including the Baltimore Business Journal and Washington Business Journal.
In 2017, CareFirst employees logged more than 25,000 volunteer hours, donating time to organizations and community partners including, Healthcare for the Homeless, Together We Serve, Girls on the Run, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake.
Since 2011, CareFirst employees have donated more than $3.3 million through an annual, company-wide United Way giving campaign.
