CareFirst Names Destiny-Simone Ramjohn to Lead Community Health and Social Impact Efforts

Baltimore and Washington, D.C. — CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) has tapped former Kaiser executive Destiny-Simone Ramjohn, Ph.D. as the organization’s new Vice President of Community Health and Social impact.
CareFirst’s Community Health and Social Impact team is part of the company’s Health Services division – which leads the organization’s work to improve the health of the members and communities we serve while seeking to make care more affordable. In close alignment with those efforts, Ramjohn will lead CareFirst’s philanthropic giving and community engagement with the goal of driving positive, measurable impacts on people’s health where they live, work, play and seek care.
Prior to joining CareFirst, Ramjohn spent five years as Director of Community Health for Kaiser Permanente, where she was responsible for developing measurement, evaluation, and high-impact strategies for the financial, material, and human resource investments across the Mid-Atlantic region that directly addressed the social determinants of health. Before that, Ramjohn provided contract support as Deputy Program Manager with the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury.

Ramjohn earned her doctorate in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University. She is a 2019 graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Leadership program and has served on a variety of boards of nonprofit organizations serving the region’s most vulnerable populations.
