CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Vaccine Updates

CareFirst understands there are still isolated reports of members being turned away at pharmacies when seeking vaccinations. All CareFirst formularies are up to date. If you are told CareFirst does not cover a vaccine, please show both your medical and pharmacy card to the pharmacy for accurate eligibility information. Pharmacies have been notified to check coverage under each benefit before preventing a member from accessing vaccines.

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) remains committed to advancing affordable and accessible healthcare with an emphasis on preventative care and vaccinations. For most members, flu shots, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccinations, and coronavirus boosters are covered at no cost when provided by an in-network pharmacy or doctor’s office.

CareFirst recently learned that some of our members and providers may have received incorrect information regarding coverage of these vaccinations while we were working to update our systems. We regret any confusion this system error may have caused members or providers.

CareFirst has and will continue to support broad access to preventative vaccinations. Any individual who was informed that their vaccination is not covered should contact CareFirst Customer Service at the number on the back of their card or at serviceresolution@carefirst.com for assistance and reimbursement information.
