How Can We Make Things Better Than They Were Before?

mom and daughter cookingThe pandemic put a magnifying glass over how our society operates. As the world imagines what reopening will look like, we have the opportunity to enact real change in what we thought was normal.

Brian Pieninck, President and Chief Executive Officer for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, recently authored a commentary piece on a new and better “normal,” posing the question of what new normal are we willing to accept?

“Returning to the pre-pandemic normal ignores undeniable and unacceptable issues,” said Pieninck. “We need to build a more robust economic foundation for the future, and employers, no matter the industry, are critical to this evolution.”

Pieninck highlighted the importance of leadership in recreating a more equitable healthcare system for all and business and community leaders' role in fostering cultures of diversity, equity and inclusion to build a stronger foundation than we had pre-pandemic.

“The future we seek lies in deciding to change. We've all seen significant shifts grow from fairly simple beginnings—sometimes as simple as asking people to join in making an impact.”
