Partnerships That Strengthen Our Communities In Maryland

Partnership logoWhen the health of our community is prioritized, everyone benefits.

That’s why CareFirst partners and collaborates with community leaders, grassroots coalitions, nonprofit organizations, municipalities and health systems to proactively identify and address social determinants of health that result in disparate health outcomes in the communities we serve.

In Maryland, CareFirst is proud to partner with the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens to feed minds, grow leaders, and let our communities know they matter.

Feeding Minds, Growing Leaders

As part of a three-year initiative with the Baltimore Orioles, CareFirst is partnering with The Food Project (TFP) to bring healthy food options to our neighbors experiencing food insecurity while creating jobs in Baltimore City.

TFP is a Baltimore-based organization that brings cooking, farming, restaurant skills, job opportunities, sustainable food sources, mentorship and hope to the youth of Southwest Baltimore. Supporting workforce development is a core component of TFP, and with CareFirst’s support, our partnership employs 32 at-risk youth at Camden Yards.

TFP provides hospitality training and supports participants’ dreams of starting their own businesses.

Through their involvement in TFP, one youth participant had the idea to create, package and distribute a healthy granola option; thus, they began Seedy Nutty. Five hundred bags of Seedy Nutty were sold at Camden Yards during the 2022 season and distributed through other partnerships in the City.

CareFirst also partners with the Baltimore Ravens and the Maryland Food Bank to address the persistent challenge of food insecurity in Baltimore City, implementing programs and utilizing resources to break down critical access barriers to fresh and nutritious food within our communities.

In an award-winning three-year collaboration with the Baltimore Ravens, CareFirst purchased a van that the Maryland Food Bank desperately needed, right as COVID-19 created a heightened need for healthy food options in a ZIP code already suffering.

In 2022, the Fresh Food Mobile distributed food at 14 locations daily. Through this partnership, CareFirst was able to facilitate distribution of 300,000 grab-and-go meals for community members and provide daily meals to more than 200 Baltimore City students.
