In Constant Evolution—Behavioral Health Care

Slice of Health CareRecently, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) Director of Behavioral Health Services, Oleg Tarkovsky, sat down with Jared Taylor, host of Slice of Healthcare's Titans of Healthcare podcast. Oleg was joined by Kyle Talcott, CEO and Founder of Uplift, and Missy Krasner, a Venture Chair at Redesign Health and Uplift Board Member.

The Titans of Healthcare podcast questions whether a scarcity of behavioral health providers is undermining people's ability to get timely care, or it may be other issues surrounding:

  • Access
  • Affordability
  • Quality
  • Equity
  • Success measures

Behavioral health is an umbrella term for mental health and mental illness. Behavioral health providers can be psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, counselors, social workers and family therapists.

"One of the most fundamental questions around quality is the measurement piece. You need the right tools, and you need everyone to have a consensus or agreement on what those tools are and what we're measuring. And once we're on the same page about that, then logical next step is to figure out is this actually showing improvement in quality"

Oleg Tarkovsky, Director, Behavioral Health Services, CareFirst
