CareFirst Engagement Centers – Caring for the Community

Over the past year, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) and Healthworx, the innovation and investment arm of CareFirst, have been hard at work on a new initiative to better serve our communities and region. We are proud to announce the first phase of the CareFirst Engagement Centers begins in Quarter 4 of 2022 with a pilot location in one of CareFirst’s corporate headquarters in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore City, Maryland.

Through the CareFirst Engagement Centers, CareFirst envisions a healthier future in which we are a part of the fabric of communities. The centers will bring the full breadth of CareFirst services into the communities we serve and support transforming health on a local level. The first location will support sales, service, community and care, which could mean helping individuals and employers to:

  • select insurance products for themselves, their family or business,
  • navigate the complexities of healthcare and health insurance, including access to in-person customer support
  • address social determinants of health, or the social and environmental factors impacting overall health, through community events and offerings,
  • connect members with care and wellness resources.

As we begin our pilot location, we hope to learn, evolve and tailor programming and services to the unique needs of our communities. With results from the Canton CareFirst Engagement Center pilot, we hope to expand the program to other areas of the region. We are analyzing communities across our service area to identify specific needs to match CareFirst services and resources with those that need them most.

At CareFirst, we believe all people deserve access to quality, equitable and affordable healthcare. Improving healthcare will only happen as the result of many stakeholders driving lasting change in a system that is often broken and fragmented. The CareFirst Engagement Centers are our first step at bringing together the right people in the right places to create better health outcomes for our friends, family and neighbors throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia.

More information on the CareFirst Engagement Center pilot will be released in the coming months. Follow CareFirst on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram to stay up-to-date on CareFirst news.
