Matthew (Matt) Snyder is the Senior Vice President, Chief Risk Officer of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst), the region’s largest not-for-profit health plan. Matt joined the company in 2022 and is responsible for leading CareFirst’s risk management team, who champions audits, enterprise risk, special investigations, privacy, and compliance.

Matt is passionate about supporting organization-wide efforts to create efficiencies to better deliver on the mission to advance accessible, affordable, equitable and quality healthcare for individuals and employers across the region.

Matt has more than 25 years of experience leading organizational process improvement and risk initiatives through interactions with executive leadership, boards, and audit committees. Prior to joining CareFirst, Matt served as Senior Vice President of Internal Audit, Compliance & Risk Management at Centene, managing domestic and international risk and compliance functions. He has also served as a partner in a large, multinational audit and advisory firm leading risk assurance services for major healthcare organizations. Additionally, he was a member of World 50 Chief Risk Officers, a private community for CROs at globally respected organizations sharing experiences to discover better ideas.

In addition to his work at CareFirst, Matt serves as a Board Director for the St. Louis Sports Commission and The Little Bit Foundation (TLBF), which is committed to breaking down barriers to learning for students living in poverty through partnerships and programs that serve the needs of the whole child. TLBF aims to empower students to achieve their academic goals and dreams for the future. Matt previously served as a Board Director for the Felton Institute, supporting their mission to respond to human needs by providing cutting edge, evidence-based mental health and social services that transform lives.

Matt holds a M.B.A from Wayne State University and earned his B.A. in International Business Administration from Alma College. Matt is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Project Management Professional (PMP) and is certified in risk and information systems control (CRISC).
