Innovative Care for Members: Healthworx and 1501 Health Companies

Patient Using SmartphoneOur members and communities are at the core of everything we do. Where we show up, what we invest in and who we partner with are all based on creating affordable, accessible and equitable healthcare that serves everyone. Providing modern healthcare means offering a suite of innovative resources for our members.

We invest in the changemakers who create these resources and services through our innovation and investment arm, Healthworx. Through Healthworx, we collaborate with organizations and entrepreneurs to address challenges in the healthcare industry or create new solutions to provide high-quality care. This includes Healthworx's incubator program, 1501 Health, in partnership with Lifebridge Health.

Healthworx finds gaps in the market and invests in solutions to fill them. Healthworx also explores innovative opportunities to bring solutions to CareFirst members to address their unique, diverse challenges. Below are current organizations that are available to CareFirst members.

CloseKnit

One of the most widely available resources from Healthworx is CloseKnit, a virtual care platform offering primary care, urgent care and behavioral health services. CloseKnit began during a sharp increase in the need for virtual care during the pandemic. It has since expanded its services and continues to serve members with tight schedules or those without easy transportation access.

Live Chair Health

A recent partner and graduate of the 1501 Health program, Live Chair Health (Live Chair), offers a pilot program for CareFirst Community Health Plan Maryland (CareFirst CHPMD) members. Using trusted community resources to share critical health information, Live Chair helps address health equity gaps for our members. Live Chair reaches out to CareFirst CHPMD members each month to act as an access point into the healthcare system, helping members understand their benefits, find a physician and schedule preliminary appointments to improve preventative care.

Ryse Health

Ryse Health (Ryse) pairs CareFirst members with uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes with Ryse providers. Members receive virtual and in-person care through their program to help control their HbA1C, conduct timely health screenings, and much more. Members can expect improved health outcomes and a better patient experience with its value-based care model.

Scene Health

Scene Health, a Healthworx Ventures investment previously known as Emoca, is a service currently available to our CareFirst CHPMD members, offering a new take on a proven treatment method. It gives members access to a talented care team to help address one of the most significant interferences to a successful medical treatment plan—medication adherence. Using a digital back-and-forth model and qualified help, patients can better understand their medications, cadences and long-term health.

WellSet

We also look for opportunities to improve resources and the well-being of our employees. We are proud to offer WellSet to our devoted Difference Makers. WellSet is a digital platform that provides unlimited access to live and on-demand virtual group emotional self-care classes. Classes such as yoga, breathwork and acupressure focus on the mind-body-emotion connection to ease anxiety, burnout and emotional imbalance.

CareFirst is proud to be able to foster tomorrow's ideas and healthcare innovations and make them available to our members. Integrating Healthworx portfolio companies into our services helps us meet and address the unique challenges our communities encounter regarding their health. As Healthworx cultivates the next generation of entrepreneurs and health solutions, CareFirst will continue to make their services available to our members.
