Susan G. Idzi

Susan G. Idzi is the Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst), one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit healthcare organizations. In this role, Susan oversees all facets of the commercial operational areas of the business, including benefit administration, enrollment, account installation, billing, claims, customer service, provider credentialing, payment integrity, special investigations, pharmacy operations and other supporting functions.

Under Susan’s leadership, the Commercial Operations division supports 75% of CareFirst's membership, or approximately 2.6 million members. The Claims department processes approximately 43 million claims annually, with 99% paid within 30 days and financial accuracy rates of 99.6%. The Service department handles 2.7 million customer inquiries annually.

Susan has over 35 years of leadership experience in the health insurance industry, all with CareFirst. Prior to her current role, she served as Vice President for Business Integration for the Small & Medium Group division. In this role, Susan was responsible for divisional compliance, quality assurance, training & development, operational reporting, broker service and administrative expense oversight. Susan’s time at CareFirst enabled her to gain experience in areas outside of Operations, including Finance, Provider Contracting and Executive Inquiry, where she held various positions throughout her tenure.

Susan holds a bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in economics from Towson University in Maryland.
