CareFirst Demonstrates Commitment to LGBTQ+ EqualityFor the fourth year in a row, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) has received a rating of 100% on its two submitted surveys from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The Human Rights Campaign is the largest LGBTQ advocacy group and LGBTQ political lobbying organization in the United States. A 100% rating by the HRC recognizes CareFirst’s commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and equity.

The HRC Foundation’s 2022 CEI is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, benefits, and practices regarding LGBTQ employees. The CEI rating criteria includes three key pillars:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities
  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families
  • Supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility

In addition to demonstrating that CareFirst provides affordable, accessible and high-quality health insurance coverage for same-sex, different-sex, and non-binary spouses and partners, the CEI rating reflects CareFirst’s commitment to LGBTQ+ associates and members.

CareFirst’s ProPride Employee Resource Group (ERG) is one of ten ERGs at CareFirst. It serves as a resource for LGBTQ+ associates and allies who want to learn about and advocate for LGBTQ+ issues that impact CareFirst associates to create a workplace where everyone can bring their authentic self to work. CareFirst also hosts an annual Week of Equity and Action as an opportunity for CareFirst employees to cultivate empathy and understanding of each other in the workplace and the community.

The 100% rating reflects CareFirst’s continued commitment to providing education, training and accountability measures on diversity and inclusion in the workplace and within the communities it serves.
